Bouwen met Bouma’s project 2025: New construction of 3 classrooms at Naliele in Zambia
Project 2025: Together with the foundation Bouwen met Bouma’s, the HH Petrus en Paulus parish (communities of Heerenveen, Wolvega, Steggerda and Frederiksoord) is working on a project in Naliele this year.
What are we going to do?
The Kaoma Primary School, located in the Naliele palace of the Lozi people, is located on the west side of Kaoma. This school, which was founded in 1947, has not received any extra classrooms since then. And this, despite the fact that the number of pupils has increased to 855: consisting of 397 boys and 458 girls.
Partly due to the government policy that education is now free and that former pupils can be admitted again, the classrooms are extremely overloaded.
What do we want to achieve?
The primary school is currently being upgraded to a secondary school. This upgrade is necessary to meet the growing demand for education in the region. Expanding the number of classrooms is essential, as the school receives many young people from different communities.
Bouwen met Bouma’s, how does it work?
The school and the parents of the pupils are involved in the construction. They help to extract sand and gravel and make the bricks. This increases the involvement and co-responsibility for the school and its future maintenance. The construction is carried out by a local contractor with its own construction workers. After completion of the construction, the government will appoint and pay qualified teachers.
The government doubles the value
What would be the point of a school without good teachers? Not much, right?
Therefore, the government will hire and pay certified teachers upon receipt of the new building.
Sustainable education (for now and for the future)
The local population is responsible for the new construction and BmB supports future maintenance. We are going for the long term.
What is Fasten action? And how does it work?
DThe HH Petrus en Paulus parish of Heerenven, Steggerda, Wolvega and Frederiksoord is campaigning for this project to collect the necessary project money. This project has been approved by Vastenactie for a total amount of € 3,120. This means that when € 2,400 is collected through this campaign, Vastenactie will add 30%. So an additional amount of up to € 720. That is worth it. If you donate to Vastenactie, your contribution will be increased by 30%! The Bouwen met de Bouma’s Foundation has financed several construction projects over the past 19 years. The foundation wants to contribute to a better future for the inhabitants of Zambia. Being able to follow good education is an important condition for this. Building three additional classrooms increases the capacity of the school enormously. Pupils aged 12 to 18 will thus have a chance of a better future.
Together with the parish, the foundation Bouwen met Bouma’s wants to realize 3 classrooms in Naliele.
